学生時代、土と釉薬と炎から生まれる、思いがけない表情をもつ陶芸の魅力に出会った𠮷田さん。それは、家業である伝統的な九谷焼上絵付とは異なる陶芸表現で、大きな衝撃を受けたといいます。その衝動のままに釉薬の探求に没頭したことが、現在へと続く作陶の原点となりました。

膨大な数の釉薬を試作し、試行錯誤を重ねるなかで、たどり着いた数点の釉薬。その表情や質感を確かめるように、そして今もなお新たな可能性を求めて研究を重ねています。

𠮷田さんにとって、釉薬は作品を彩るためのものではなく、釉薬が生み出す表情や質感を起点に、形やデザインまでもが導かれていきます。すべすべとした滑らかな質感と、肌理細かさのある白の釉薬による立体的な作品。その繊細な表情に呼応するように生まれる、柔らかく優美な曲線もまた、作品の大きな特徴です。花を迎える器としてだけではなく、ひとつの造形作品として、佇まいや質感そのものをお楽しみいただけます。

1994年　石川県小松市生まれ

2017年　京都精華大学芸術学部素材表現学科陶芸コース卒業

2018年　石川県立技術研修所中退

2018年　錦山窯入社

2022年　錦山窯で九谷焼の技法を学びながら、個人作家としての活動を開始

During his student years, Taro Yoshita encountered the captivating possibilities of ceramics—the unexpected expressions that emerge from the interplay of clay, glaze, and fire. This was a form of ceramic expression quite different from the traditional Kutani overglaze painting practiced by his family, and the experience came as a profound revelation to him. Driven by this impulse, he immersed himself in the study of glazes, an exploration that became the starting point of his ceramic practice and continues to shape his work today.

Through making and testing an enormous number of glazes and repeating a process of trial and error, Yoshita eventually arrived at a select few that truly resonated with him. He continues to study them closely, exploring their expressions and textures while searching for new possibilities within them.

For Yoshita, glaze is not simply a means of adding color or decoration to an object. Rather, the expressions and textures created by the glaze become the starting point from which the form and design of each work emerge. His sculptural pieces are characterized by smooth, silky surfaces and finely textured white glazes that create a sense of depth and dimension. In response to these delicate surfaces, soft and graceful curves emerge naturally, becoming another defining quality of his work. More than vessels intended simply to hold flowers, his pieces can also be appreciated as sculptural works in their own right, inviting us to take in their presence and tactile qualities.

Taro Yoshita

1994 — Born in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.

2017 — Graduated from the Ceramics Course, Department of Material Expression, Faculty of Art, Kyoto Seika University.

2018 — Withdrew from the Ishikawa Prefectural Technical Training Institute.

2018 — Joined Kinzan-gama, a Kutani ware kiln.

2022 — Began his independent practice while studying traditional Kutani ware techniques at Kinzan-gama.
